Thanks, Deb — glad it was interesting. Common Core can be commended for shifting the emphasis towards deeper conceptual understanding. One of its many downsides is that assessments do not reflect the broad and deep expectations of the standards (and as we know, high-stakes testing usually dictates what takes place in a classroom). The Standards also fall way short of promoting the natural links math has with other subjects (in this case, history).
