I would never claim that a single mental representation will work for all people. I’m suggesting something close to the opposite — that the more representations we have, the more entry points to understanding. Finkel’s grid may not speak to you but there are other representations out there that will (and they may, in turn, help you see Finkel’s grid in a new light). As educators we have limited time and resources so it’s simply a question of finding as many representations of as high quality within those constraints.
