Hi kenthompson,
My immediate suggestions are to
a) Embrace a growth mindset. You “do not have any Math skills” yet (actually, I bet you have far more than you realise). See Carol Dweck’s TED talk on how a positive mindset alone can do wonders for your cognitive development.
b) Immeserse yourself in interesting math problems. Sites like Khan Academy are very good for acquiring foundational knowledge. But the real joy of maths is in applying that knowledge to solve interesting problems. Knowledge acquiition and problem-solving go hand in hand; do not pursue one at the expense of the other. Check out NRich for a good mix of school-level problems. There are many other repositories of fun, challenging maths problems.
Hope that helps!
