Sal Khan has always been an inspiration and it’s difficult to find fault in his latest TED talk. However, I would exercise some caution in the use of the term ‘mastery’ — technology can help cement the foundations but students will only acquire maths mastery if their classroom interactions are deepened. The obvious policy move is to use continuous assessment to enrich lesson planning and instruction, in place of blunt high-stakes tests that stifle learning and teaching.
